Computer-generated optimal bridge design

Abstract

The integrated computer system CGOBD that defines an optimum bridge alternative is described. A general review of the numerical optimization is presented, and generation of discrete solutions by means of expert systems is described. Individual portions of the integrated computer system are presented. Difficulties occurring while formulating and structuring the required knowledge base are illustrated by an example of free cantilevering of concrete girder bridges. The system was applied on a bridge realized in Slovenia
