Overtopping of rubble mound breakwaters by random wave action

Živko Vuković, Marko Pršić, Pejo Brica

Abstract

Analytical models of overtopping of breakwaters by random wave action are presented, and a particular emphasis is placed on the Owen's model and the model developed by Hedges and Reis. These models served as a basis for deriving expressions for breakwater crest height as a function of allowable overtopping, breakwater parameters and wave climate. It is demonstrated that differences between these models are due to the fact that zero overtopping can not be determined by Owen's model if the crest height is greater than the wave elevation, which has been resolved in the model presented by Hedges and Reis.
