Nonlinear seismic analysis of structures according to EN 1998-1:2004

Abstract

The nonlinear method N2 for the analysis of seismic behaviour of structures is presented. The pushover method is combined with spectral analysis, and is presented in the acceleration - displacement format. The results obtained by this method are acceptable if the structure dominantly oscillates in the first tone. The application of the method N2 is illustrated by an example of a four-storey building with the reinforced-concrete frame structure. The results are compared with the nonlinear procedures FEMA 273 and ATC 40 that are currently applied in the U.S.A.
