Designing a concrete composition highly resistant to frost

Srđan Uzelac, Ana Hranilović Trubić, Igor Šustić

Abstract

Design of the massive concrete highly resistant to frost, that is to be used during construction of the Lesce Hydropower Plant, is presented. While testing suitability of the additive for the entraining of air into the concrete composite, a non-compliance was discovered between the Technical regulation for concrete structures and the Standard HRN EN 206-I, regarding minimum air content in concrete exposed to frost action (2% instead of 4%). The authors caution that this fact may cause problems in the design and production of concrete.
