Influence of a shallow undersea reef on water mixing in coastal channels

Nenad Ravlić

Abstract

The turbulent mixing in Adriatic coastal channels of medium depth, characterized by irregular sea bottom positioned transverse to the dominant direction of sea currents, is analyzed by a mathematical space model. The hydrodynamic impact exerted by obstacles on local stratified-sea homogenization processes in the area destined for waste water disposal is examined. The results are compared with known functional relationships that describe turbulent mixing in stratified fluid layers.
