Pier damage analysis on the small arch of the Krk bridge

Joško Ožbolt, Anto Kučer, Želimir Šimunić

Abstract

The analysis of pier damage on the small arch of the Krk bridge is described in the paper. The results of experimental testing and analysis of the load bearing portions of the structure have revealed that the pier S21 above the small arch is a dynamically very sensitive element. The three-dimensional non-linear analysis was conducted on the most sensitive part of the pier. The authors conclude that this damage endangering the mechanical stability of the bridge is mostly caused by the interactions between the aggressive environment, dynamic influences and creep of concrete.
