Preparation of Croatia's construction industry for the European Union

Abstract

Initially, the author asserts that a different approach to the development of construction industry and its operators needs to be created as a precondition for successful accession to the European Union. The current situation in the Croatian construction industry is described and comparison is made with some segments of the international construction industry. The organization of Croatian construction industry in form of "clusters" is proposed and explained, as a means to gain competitive edge on an international construction market. The model is further elaborated and illustrated through concrete examples.
