Behaviour and design of steel frames with eccentric diagonals

Mladen Bulić, Mehmed Čaušević

Abstract

The structure of the hybrid steel frame, based on frame stiffening with eccentrically linked diagonals, is presented. The behaviour of the most significant frame member segment, called seismic tie, through which the seismic energy is dissipated, is described. A detailed account is given of results obtained by testing frame as a whole and by testing seismic ties regarded as separate segments. In conclusion, the application of this concept is presented, and its use is recommended in the design work based on Eurocode 8-1.
