On the use of discontinuous functions in the statics of structures

Riko Rosman

Abstract

The author shows that the use of discontinuous functions may significantly simplify formulation of load and response values, as well as derivations for complex loading of beams in the statics of structures. Definitions and calculation rules with discontinuous functions are given, and the practical application is presented on several simple assignments involving statically determinate and indeterminate beams, and the wall with a number of openings exposed to gravity and lateral load at random height.

Keywords
wall, structural analysis, discontinuous functions, internal forces, strains, beams
